Frankly, I think it's unfortunate that a lot of people don't read the English Renaissance writers beyond Shakespeare, and as /lit/ tends to prefer novels and philosophy to poetry, I thought I may as well give a slightly unorthodox answer in one of my personal favorites of that era. Other anons are going to give the normal recs of like C&P or The Republic or whatever.

>> No.18616317

>>18616225
C&P or The Republic are usually given as reccs because they challenge commonly held views in very thought provoking ways. If you give people who generally dislike poetry a poetry book to read wouldnt they form a negative opinion of the book/writer? Barring that the nuance of the work as well as the period itself would go over the readers head given that they are totally uninitiated to both the genre and the period. Not to discredit or disqualify your recommendation I just found it odd.

Poetry is no more of a genre of literature than literature is a genre of art. In which case it's completely valid for someone to simply not like reading books, as established by your own parameters. But in a way that's besides the point. Poetry is not a 'genre', it's simply a technical form, nothing more. What can be said in a poem can just as easily be said in a prose passage and vice versa. I'm not even sure hoe you came to the conclusion that poetry os something unique and hard to access. If there's anything you should be taking gripes with, it's that he recommended an elizabethian, not a poet.

I'm the anon you replied to.
I'll admit I haven't thought about it this way, but Jonson in particular has some has many humorous epigrams (pic related is a good example) that someone who doesn't really care "get" or care for poetry can read and find amusing as long as they can parse a "thy," "thee," or "thou" once in a while. John Donne, on the other hand, would probably be a bit much, yes.
Also, I didn't mean to seem dismissive of C&P or The Republic, or the anons who rec them, as I love those books as much as anyone else, but they're probable to mentioned by some anon in this thread. I wanted to spice it up a bit, dude

Big 5 is basically the same shit.
Openness is basically Intuition
Conscientiousness is Judging vs Perceiving
Extroversion is self-explanatory
Agreeableness is thinking vs feeling
Neuroticism is also thinking vs feeling

If you go through the SLOAN method of Big 5 it entirely correlates to MBTI. INTP there would stereotypically be Reserved (introvert) - Calm (thinker rather than feeler) - Unorganized (perceiver rather than judger) - Egocentric (thinker rather than feeler although INTPs are very laid back in this respect) - and Inquisitive (rather than non-curious)

Go on personality database and check the RCUEI typed characters and people and they have more than half of them as INTPs.

https://www.personality-database.com/personality_type/287

Addendum: I do know about the cognitive functions, I'm just showing the dichotomies between both systems are functionally the same.

I enjoy these types of typos. Which did anon originally write, some or many? What prompted him to make this minor edit? Did he pause after "has some", get the image, then resume his post, forgetting he'd already declared the relative amount of humorous epigrams Jonson has? Did he rediscover epigrams he'd long forgotten, prompting the change from some to many? Perhaps he was disappointed during his review and changed from many to some, forgetting to delete the characterization from his prior draft. So much mystery in something so small.

Are you guys mentally stable INFPs? It seems like most INFPs are suffering mentally from insecurity and tend to over analyze things. If so I want you all to stop giving a fuck about all that bullshit, none if matters.

Definte mentally stable, but I think I am. My mother died earlier this year, lost an uncle after that and my aunt some days ago. It is not like I'm super happy, but I'm ok. My house isn't turning into a fucking mess, my stuff is somewhat clean and I'm getting back to college and might also start a business.
