By it's nature there's no 100% guarantee you'll find something good but it's pretty comfy. But wait… have you noticed that: the clock suddenly stopped moving for a second! What is happening? Is this class period ever going to end?

We can bring in the law of relativity but that’s not important in this discussion. What is really mind boggling is that: why did the clock stop ticking when you quickly gaze upon it?

Before explaining the stopped clock, we’d have to understand our eye movements:

There are two main types of eye movements: saccade and smooth pursuit. Smooth pursuit is the smooth tracing of a moving object (stare at your finger and move your finger form left to right), and saccades are rapid eye transitions form one location to the next.

We spend most of our time in the “saccade” mode of our eyes. That means our eyeballs are constantly jiggling around, trying to locate objects and targets.

But are saccades really that rapid? Yes and no. Of course, micro saccades are very rapid and almost undetectable (the ones you experience when reading). But the saccades that we use to gaze upon the clock is considered a macro-saccade. These saccades involve a relatively significant eye-movement. You can probably notice this as you stare at the eye-balls of your beautiful girlfriend; there is a pretty significant eye-motion in between each movements of her macro-saccade eye-movements.

Intuitively speaking, the macro-saccades will usually cause a vision blur judging by the speed of its movement. But we ourselves can’t seem to experience this blur, thanks to saccadic-masking.

This is the real problem with his stuff, I think. Adopting worn out styles instead of developing his own or at least attempting to synthesize the worn out stuff into something new. He just goes from pseudo-Keourac to Hemingway to Lebowitz like it's nothing, without even a real understanding of why those writers write in that particular style.

I tend to be more sympathetic with Waldun because he reminds me of how I was in high-school when I first discovered literature, and I understand that artistic progression involves a lot of mimicry. But the internet has either stagnated that progression for him or disrupted it entirely. He's all image because that's what does best on the medium of YouTube and what earns him praise from the Dark Academia folk. If he wants to be a serious artist, he'd have to delete the channel, which won't happen because it seems to be how he makes a living. Which is an impressive feat, I will admit.

From what I've read, he more or less talks to strangers or observes weird passersby and culls stories from that. A lot of it seems outright fabricated if I'm being honest, and the stories never seem authentic. He tries to add a hardscrabble, gritty tone to it (somtimes Beat-inspired, somtimes more Thompson-esque) that doesn't ring true knowing just how safe Melbourne is.
