I am looking for resources or ideas or advice on how to talk to my children about the events of the past few years. I am at a loss.

I am an international Asian adoptee who grew up in a pretty white suburb in the Midwest US. I also grew up unbelievably sheltered in a godly but pretty restrictive home, and since I was basically raised as an average American white person, I have had no experience with racism other than "you're Asian, you must be good at math and music." I mean, I was, but that's not the point. And the comments didn't seem offensive to me. My husband (he's white) grew up about five minutes outside Ferguson - yes, that Ferguson - so he's pretty familiar with racial issues, having grown up in that environment.

Here's the deal: our children are young. Our oldest is six. She's started to ask some questions, but we haven't had an in depth discussion with her. Mainly because we don't know how to. We've tried to not talk about these things in front of the younger children, but my oldest overheard a brief conversation. My husband was running on the trail and saw the local police stopping black people, mainly to start a dialogue and open the lines of communication, but it was still a little jarring to see. The first words out of her mouth were, "why were the police stopping black people?" I think we gave her some innocuous answer, but we both know that we have to have the talk soon. I think had she been in school for a regular school year (school was cancelled for the rest of the year in mid March), the school counselors would have provided some resources and guidance to all of us. But we're on our own now.

I want to handle this well, and I trust you all guys to help me. So again are there any books that could help me tackle this problem?
