Do you guys make a conscious effort to replace all your paperback books with hardcover copies?

you don't like the look of an organized bookshelf?

Only sane reason to replace a paperback with a hardback is if you wore out the paperback and expect to use the new copy as much as the old.

I have 3 shelves, 3 feet long each. When they get full I select what is important and bring the remainder down to Goodwill.

Also, I hate hardcover. Really annoying to handle and I feel guilty carrying them around because they get damaged easily.

I buy hardbacks of the books that I like enough to want to keep for posterity.
Also a lot of the books I like have small print runs and are typically hardback anyway so I snatch them up.

Collecting only hard covers is ostentatious unless you're collecting for investment purposes. If you want a meme wall to project your "superior intelligence" or class status, go ahead. The written word is a consumable good and should be treated as such.

Clothbound Hardcover’s with sewn bindings are better to read than paperbacks though and will last longer

>> No.18592212

Paperback
>Soft and fluffy
>Cheap
>Lightweight
>Bends easily
>More structurally durable

Hardbacks
>Literal block of wood
>Will dent
>Will wear out faster
>Heavy
>Not portable
>Not flexible
>More expensive

I'll stick with my paperbacks, thank you.

I don't own any books because it is a waste of time, space and money to amass, store, and maintain them. A money sink, which retains almost ZERO resale value, only to rot in horder-tier shelves and piles serving to limit one's acute square footage and geographic mobility at large (logistics of shipping worthless heavy volumes). Most midwits use books as ornamental props. I own a Sony DPS 13.3", and have nearing 10k ebooks. I have read more than the pseuds on this entire site. There is ZERO reason to own a physical book unless it is absolutely unavailable as a PDF. I resent people with bookshelves. I see them on Zoom and in real life and I know it is all for show and they are CONSOOOMERs wanting trinkets and trifles, balls and chains to keep them content in their little designated living spaces.

The feel of real books cannot be replaced.
I also have my doubts as to how long we will still live in this technological wonderland. Most people dont even know how many resources just maintaining the internet takes.
I believe having a nice library in your house is good for a childs development as well. Being surrounded by books since childhood and being read to as a kid definitely had a positive impact on my life. In the short term it made me value education more and become a better student.
And lastly its just beautiful to pass down books from generation to generation, or at least down to your kids or grandkids. I still have a book of roman satyres from my grand grand father.

the ever increasing digitalization is reshaping man into a mechanized creation. sure, book printing is a product of the industrial revolution, however holding a physical item feels in some way harmonious with nature and in that sense a rekindling of what it means to be human.
the technics in the elite hierarchy would like us to diminish or be integrated in their "Fourth Industrial Revolution" by reinterpreting what it means to be human through synthetic bullshit that denatures us from the classics of biology.
