I'm 20 years old and I go to columbia. I feel very silenced here, as most of the people at this school are women, especially accounting for Barnard people. I don't know what I plan on studying, but I would like it to be interesting at the very least-- something that breaks the boundaries of the field I'm studying, not just reinforces and adds onto ways of thinking already established. I'm going to start taking a western lit. class next semester (hopefully). We have several good looking libraries, but I'm always too anxious to study out in the open in each of them; whenever I'm sitting at a table in Butler, I notice that everyone around me is quicker to leave than at any other table. It's probably because most of the other tables are filled with people that have friends, not just a solitary person such as myself. That being said, I'm happy with the choice I made to come to New York for school, because it's provided me with a great perspective on life, and what it's like to live and work on a plane where everyone takes themselves so seriously. New York is disgusting though.

You can use Goodreads to keep track of books that you want to read. Using the app (or website) you can quickly add the name of any interesting books you hear about. There are also synopses and reviews of books if you are not sure whether a particular book is one you would like. The page for each book includes links to external sites where you can purchase the book, in hard copy or digital format.

You can also keep a list of books you have already read and can add information such as the date you read it or what you thought of it.

Goodreads is also a social media site, although I don’t use that feature. You can find people who have similar reading tastes and discuss books with them, or communicate with your real-life friends who are using the site.

I went to both of the DC ones. They were both pretty good. The first one was more wild and a group of 4 people ended up hanging out after and doing stuff late into the night. The second one was more low-key but still pretty chill.

At both there was high level of conversation. I think with maybe one or two people there was a period of adjustment because they weren't used to talking at that level face-to-face in real time and so there is a learning process of understanding how to talk about really heady stuff without ranting and while respecting the normal ebbs and flows in conversations; but even with that being a factor the discussions were excellent.
