Looking for some book suggestions. I love meandering and atmospheric prose, books that I can really sink my teeth into. I love the writing style of Moby Dick, which is what I'm reading right now but I'll be going on a long trip so I need to bring some other books with me.

I love the original Dune series, Something Happened by Joseph Heller, Catch-22, The Old Man and the Sea, Never Let Me Go, The Gods Themselves, The Metamorphosis, and To Kill a Mockingbird, just to give enough samples that you can kind of guess at what I might be interested in. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

If you like Melville, you of course need to read Shakespear, a major influence on him.
Mcarthy is literally gay for Melville and Blood Meridian is basically MobyDick2, so read that.
Then read Suttree.

I've actually ready a good chunk of Shakespeare already, but I had no idea that he was an influence on Melville which is cool to know.
Since you and >>18581569 both recommended Blood Meridian I ordered a copy, especially after reading a quick summary and some reviews. I also downloaded a pdf of The Tartar Steppe because apparently it's been out of print for a while.
I also ordered a copy of Rings of Saturn, it seems really engaging in a way that I haven't really experienced.
I'll take a look at Suttree also, it looks like it'll be up my alley. Thanks for the suggestions.

wish I could get into blood meridian but i've tried it like three times and give up each time. i just don't get it, mccarthy is just a worse faulkner. the book is nothing like moby dick.
