18553467 No.18553467 [Reply] [Original]

Is there a list anywhere of the most zany writers, people who represent any sort of counter-culture or non-consumer culture?

Previous threads had some great discussion, one theory being that in a consoomer-based culture, a counter-culture cannot exist. Everything in entertainment and fiction will be in support of the system.

Thoughts?

How do I know if my work is readable? I mean, why would I even show it to anyone when the creativity, plot, themes... none of that matters unless some anonymous person on /Lit/ approves that I have arranged the words in a pleasing way to them. Why would anyone even bother when there is no actual discussion on the book, merely constant attacks on the "quality of writing" which is, of course, highly subjective.

none of these things actually exist. all that exists are words on a page, and the things you mentioned are merely effects that the words you've put on the page produce on the reader's mind.

the words you put on the page were bad, so the effects did not take place. this is called not knowing how to write.

Dude... there are people every day selling junk products and making a ton of money.

I'm going under the assumption that I will be able to sell a product. I don't care if the writing is perfect, it just needs to serve the purpose to telling a whacky story and selling some Canadian-made books.

I mean, I'm not trying to be Shakespeare here. If my work is the McDonald's of Canadian lit and makes a few bucks, that's great.

This is a fun process, imagining the book, writing it, getting the paper chopper, ordering the hot glue book binder. It's going to be a lot of fun taking this book out into the world and sell it!

It would appear that you haven't had that euphoria of bringing your creative vision to the public, it's great. My 1st book completely changed my world for the better, and my 2nd will be even more of a leap-frog in life.

a very strange comparison. it's the content of your posts, not their number, that shows you to be delusional.

you have repeatedly insisted, in this thread and the previous one, that total strangers should be obliged to read a book they hate in order to help you make it better, and that the uniformly negative feedback you keep receiving is due to some sort of mass fit of envy the board feels towards you for being "a creator", as opposed to the badness of your bad writing. that's delusion.

I mean, if the majority of people don't read at your erudite level, that's good for me. Maybe my writing is so boring and basic that it will be just-right for the 50 Shades of Grey crowd.

/Lit/ is in the belief that Stephen King is a horrible writer and that Waldun sucks... but Steve is very rich and Waldun's viewership grows.

Whats retarded about it? Put some thought into it.
Consoomer culture is always looking for exploitable markets, be it gays, drug abusers, or mlp fans. Counter cultures will constantly be engulfed by corporate entities looking to sell products (or user data) and eventually sanitize them of anything heretical to mainstream dogma.
The only possible counter cultures that can thus exist must be too radical or distasteful to exploit for profit, which leaves very little room for it to exist in a detectable way for the average anon. Given that tech giants are capable and willing to deplatform and disappear anything they decide is unworkable, where could a modern counterculture exist except for in small, disconnected pockets that are still insulated from corporate surveillance. Once anything gets big enough to bother the media makers, its marked for integration or destruction.

Capitalism has a tendency to scrub counter cultural movements of their political content and then spit it back out as a consumer product often with an accompanying consumer identity in a process called recuperation. I thought /lit/ was a board that reads

I know, right? I voted for Ralph Nader, who campaigned for closing the Mexican border and protecting American jobs. He warned of the danger of disease as well as crime coming over an open border. But Nader was suddenly ignored when it was noticed that he and Trump both supported what is now called America First policies, but used to be (and indeed still is) just common sense.

>or does this stuff seem very old-fashioned actually, very boomerish. people disappointed that the internet turned out nothing like cyberpunk predicted it to be
That's exactly it, since the main inspirations behind all this are (early) Nick Land/CCRU and cyberpunk animus like Serial Experiments Lain. Turn of the millennium shit when the internet was a mysterious murky netherworld to recede into from real life, which doesn't exist anymore in the fully integrated irl/url web 2.5. That is exactly what miya, fodcom and the rest are trying to replicate and is in line with a bunch of other early internet revivalist fashion. You see it in music (hexd, hyperpop, internet rap etc), in "aesthetics" etc

Not quite. Establishment conservatism is merley the other half of a power dialectic which still advances elite agendas.

The actual counterculture is pro-White racial politics and culture building.

The problem is the internet gives people a safe avenue to rebel/experiment with minimal risk. You don't have to actually go outside and ruffle any feathers. Nobody's going to hold you accountable if you don't practice what you preach. You can just larp on /pol/ or discord and vent about how sick you are of modern culture and the day of the rope is totally coming any day now. Sitting on your ass looking at a monitor doesn't give you much life experience to draw upon for inspiration.

>Conservatism is the new counter culture.

it's more like the left are the neo-fascists. It's amazing how the left has no self awareness anymore. I am only 33. I grew up hating George Bush and watching the daily show. The left used to be principled on subjects on corporate power, free speech, and government corruption. Now the left is one giant cesspool of brainwashed NPC's worshiping tyranny because orange man bad, and all hail female penises.

>>18553467
I can only guess, but it's not just the people you mentioned. Unique people who actually DO something are in short supply. There is a pernicious culture decay that scares the shit out of me. No one is left in confidence to their own devices. People consult the internet on what toilet paper to use before they wipe their ass.

Maybe you are too young to notice, but this decay of idleness has done a real doozy on certain hobbies. People are too chicken shit to do anything cool for themselves. Car forums used to be FULL of people doing unique shit, trailblazing, having fun. Now, it's a bunch of onion boys sitting around talking about the same boring shit over and over. VWvortex used to be so kickass.

Then you have the fact that nearly every aspect of society is on the grid. We are all cattle with ear tags. you can't live off the farm like you used to be able to do.

this is very true. i think "true" counterculture authorship will be harder to find as time goes on, as people's views (especially politically) on what's good/bad seem to be progressively more black and white, thereby making it less and less acceptable to transgress the norm. plus so many of the transgressive things that defined these movements aren't really taboo anymore - you can buy weed most places legally, soon it will be other drugs, porn is everywhere and it isn't weird to be a sex worker, etc

less people going out, doing insane shit and writing it all down later. more people looking at monitors and wasting their interesting, unformed ideas on tweets that will probably be lost within their lifetime, if they're even read at all...
