Beckett is and always will be massively underrated because everyone always sees Joyce as "the great irish writer", whereas Beckett is just that dude who makes plays in which nothing happens.Truth is, Beckett's minimalism is far more ingenious and artistically legitimate than Joyce's maximalism. No. What use is 4chan if there is no outrage and reaction? The world sucks and it is justified to be mad at it.

Cioran's GoF essentially lambasted any ideology, philosophy, and probably Cioran himself, which I'm sure he knew. People know him for his sheer pessimism but's GoF one of my favorite short essays of all time and is about as neutral as it gets. His fondness for Beckett, whose prose is descriptive rather than prescriptive and leaves it open to such wide interpretation, makes sense I suppose.

I remember when I read James Knowlson's bio of Beckett I got the impression they (Cioran / Beckett) were just shallow acquaintances but then I found out elsewhere that they in fact shared a mutual admiration and that Beckett very much enjoyed reading him. Beckett also enjoyed the company of Giacometti whose artistry is similar to that of Beckett and his minimalism though in the medium of sculpture instead
