What and how you write is influenced by your cultural upbringing. A Non-German can write books in the German language, but he can't write German books. If I write a book in Chinese I'm not a Chinese author. That being said Jewish literature can be great, I'm not arguing against that. I love Schnitzler for example. But compare Kafka or Schnitzler to German authors from the same period. Jewish authors have a very distinct style and way to look at the world.

if you knew anything about kafka, it would be very clear to you that he had a very german upbringing and if you read his books you would very clearly see that he has an uncanny insight into the german soul and culture of his time

>> No.18504612

Kafka's literature is very cleary Jewish. Take for example in The Process the parable Before the Law. It's influenced by Jewish mysticism and the Talmud. Kafka himself was heavily influenced by Jewish religious thought, for example he was friends with Martin Buber. He was also influenced by Yiddish theater and culture, he even wrote books about it.

I've read most of the ones that aren't medieval or 21st century. Not that interested in those. I suppose if there's a recent standout novel I'd check it out, but I'm not really into the older german from the medieval period.

Kafka's literature is very clearly German. Take for example the words he uses, or his grammar. Why don't you tell us about his law degree? Surely, this must have influenced his style.
This is about literature and not Blut-und-Boden idiocy.

fucking kys amerimutt
you clearly haven't read any german author besides Kafka
if you would have read you would know what anon is trying to say
the way kafka writes is different from the german authors
all the german /lit/ i read had some fairy tale feel to it(even Woyzeck) while Kafka feels like a nightmare or fever dream
also if you would read the german authors in the same order as on the chart you would observe that every author has been influenced by the previous
kafka on the other hand would be out of place
pic related is (You)

>> No.18515130

Stating his work cannot be classified as German literature solely based on the fact that he happened to be Jewish and therefore neglecting Jewish influence on German society, art, literature and history is antisemitic, yes.

>> No.18515218

>>18515130
A Jew can't write German literature just as I can't write Jewish literature, and German culture had a bigger impact on Jewish culture than vice versa.
German literature in its most basic definition is literature written in German by Germans. Today the more relevant term is "Deutschsprachige Literature" anyway, which simply includes every book written in German. This term makes discussions like these pointless, since everyone can write in the German language.

That is possibly the dumbest thing I have read on 4Chan, ever.

Jewish life was always great part of life in Germany. No German scholar would say that German Literature by Jewish Germans isn't German Literature. Those are only absurd statements found on the deranged right wing spectrum. Go back to /pol/.
