Existence precedes essence. If you introduce a group of monkeys to something harmful they're going to be harmed. Simple as that.
The dominant argument which comes up when discussing tech as harmful is that "we have always been that way." I've namely heard this from numerous people when i complain about the emptiness of Tinder. "We've always been self-adsorbed, vain creatures. Swiping on Tinder is no different than what has always been the case trying to attract mates so we can fuck them."
But do you really believe that? Isn't a relationship built on love, compassion, and truth objectively better than the type offered by Tinder hookup culture?
It's the most fundamental discovery of science in the last century that we are as we are conditioned. If you design an environment that bolsters ego and conditions people to continually compete for meaningless acceptance, you're going to get narcissists. If you all agree that we are made better by philosophy than you have to agree we are made worse by its absence.
