I just finished reading this book and I found this quote in the back under the heading "notes"

"Seriously? This is the era of the internet. If you have doubts about the accuracy of any of the assertions I've made in this book, go to your favorite search engine and look it up for yourself. Then go to a search engine you don't like to use, and do the same thing there-and notice the difference between what the two engines fetch you. That way you can arrive at an informed opinion for yourself, which is worth a great deal more than believing what someone says just because you read it in a book You're welcome"

Based or cringe?

The fact the author is either unaware or unwilling to acknowledge the gap between the material available to a search engine and that available to a serious researcher would make me doubt any book's veracity in itself.

I think you missed his point, it's directly relevant to the thesis of the book

>if you doubt something just read two conflicting opinions on it so you can mash them together like a pair of skittles because there's no way to tell the truth in this crazy world
I stand by my original position

But Google and Bing basically give me the same answers.

Cringe. if i find an important claim dubious, i will try to verify it myself, even if it has a reference. The point of citations is to make it easier to check the author's claims.
