I thought it was good. The investigation of memory aspect of the book is what I found least interesting about it. The insights of the beginning where he reflects on his journey and returning and the Italian confusion of the war were the best parts of the book imo. I will be reading more Pavese. I have his NYRB book of his novellas and his diary which I was able to snatch for $20.
