Let's talk about bookbinding and related topics.
Hardcover or paperback, /lit/?
Personally I believe paperbacks should never be over an inch thick otherwise it's too flimsy and prone to damage.

I unironically like those new types of 'hardcover' where the cover is made of a rubbery/plasticy/siliconnie material. Very robust.

I prefer hardcovers. I've just this week ordered a roll of Brodart Just-A-Fold III Archival Book Jacket Covers. I figured it was time to start taking better care of my books.

I want to murder the people who invented perfect binding, or adopted it as the industry standard.

I like older Hardcovers and Newer paperbacks. Luckily for me I have like 30 old soviet and post soviet books and they're all hardcover :)))))))

I've always wanted to print and bind my own books, just copies of ye olde lliterature like medieval manuscripts and esoteric/occult literature like those codices on daemons, alchemical texts, "guides to rituals", etc and such.

Except instead of thick paperboard for the cover, using using leather bound planed wood, that stuff shoud last like at leasst a century if kept well or more. Anyone tried printing and binding their own books? I don't think sourcing quality acid-free paper and printing them is a problem, but the binding, stitching and such is the real pain in the ass to get right

I like paperbacks under 300 pages best desu. What kind of book are you writing if you can't say what you want in under 300p?

Yeah, people have sometimes bought me very big thick paperbacks and I have had to CUT THEM INTO THREE so they can be held and read easily. When I ask for the Border Trilogy I obviously want it in three separate volumes. Sheesh.

would like to print old books as well, but because of my autism I'd like to copy the typography, which would be too complicated, so nah.

Binding your own books is for female book nerds.
They seem to looooove the idea of making your own "grimoire" or some shit, dipping water in acidic coffee/tea for that aged appearance or some shit.

You're not a female book nerd, are you /lit/?

I like hardcover better, as I appreciate the extra durability that they provide, as well as the ability to put additional decorations onto the book.
I will concede however, Paperback are far easier to transport, especially in a bookbag or backpack

I don't care as long as the binding is actually good, so either sewn or using steel clips.
I just don't want it to fall apart on first reading or for the fucking glue to dry out and crack and let a booklet loose.

>> No.18475450

my favourite are cloth covers, with sewn signatures
easily the comfiest
>>18473266
well presumably this is about the type of bookbinding we like, not the act itself
I don't understand what's wrong with wanting to do bookbinding though, it seems really nice and I love books

nice grip too

problem with clothbound stuff is that micro-dust still gets into those small nooks and crannies of the weave

Paperback for shorter books, hardbacks if they're bigger, around 500 pages or so and sitting at a desk reading makes more sense.

I like hardcovers visually and when they are about 300 pages. I like paperbacks for bigger books and I don't care about the look of the spine so I'll crack it to hold in comfy in one hand.
