18434930 No.18434930 [Reply] [Original]

Are there any books which depict the life of Jesus Christ in a realistic way, including his flaws and so on?

>> No.18434940

Not sure if Robert Graves' King Jesus would be what you want but worth a look. He is the guy who wrote I, Claudius.

The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by José Saramago is literally what you just described.

>> No.18434965

He had no flaws. The Bible is the most realistic depiction because it’s true.

>> No.18434971

Saramago wrote one. It's called O Evangelho segundo Cristo - probably the evangel by Christ, or some shit like that in English. It's pretty good and the last page is stunning.

That was a really dissapointing book. I imagined Saramago would genuinely explore the feelings of the human side of Jesus, but no, instead it's a cynical story that fails to understand Jesus and christianity The part of Lazarus is just horrible or the "Men, forgive Him, for He knows not what He has done" during the crucifixion.
But Saramago was a commie, so is not that surprising.

The Last Temptation of Christ is more of a "what if?" than anything. A vision/inner monologue that plays out considering the idea of him having the same very human desires and emotions that we do. But, spoiler-- he doesn't give into them, because it's only a vision.

Too many Christians deem it as 'blasphemous'. I think it's fascinating.

It is, you can tell Saramago was trying to mock and create a secular and cynical version of the gospels. Jesus doesn't even resurrect Lazarus in the novel because Mary Magdalene tells him that living again is worse than dying, even if Martha if asking him with all her devotion to revive her brother.
It's a horrible book.

Sure, but based on your use of wording (christcuck, jew on a stick) I am also willing to bet that you really do not give a shit about any arguments made. Even with that, I'll raise the bar, Jesus was the messiah based on the old testament prophecy. Based on accounts that formed the gospels, he also made a stake to divinity.

Jesus being God only works in an Abrahamic worldview and to be totally honest, its clear you do not care, subscribe and see such a worldview with contempt. I've applied the first statement of fact, that Jesus himself made a stake to divinity, his apostles very much believed this (even worshipping him), even a random dumb shmuck Paul, who was a Jew hating Christian became a Christian. Then there's the resurrection and the alleged miracles.

It's more honest to you because you are a coward, and you cannot see anything else in others, or rather want to see that in others, to lower them to yourself, rather than heighten yourself to them.

You are small and mean minded.

also that's what "historical criticism" is, it doesn't literally mean you're "criticising" a person, it means you're questioning the traditional sources and are changing the character to be more "realistic".
