1842111 No.1842111 [Reply] [Original]

What are /lit/'s favorite films?

>> No.1842114

Wings of Desire.
Also amelie.

>> No.1842115

My personal favorites are Funeral Parade of Roses, Diary of a Shinjuku Thief, and Shimotsuma Monogatari

I somehow doubt the rest of /lit/ shares my taste in cinema, however

>> No.1842116

Favourite movie is The Last Unicorn. Works out 'cause its also my favourite book. Also in the top favourites are the Labyrinth & The Dark Crystal.

I don't care much for things in the comedy/romantic comedy genre. I need substance. Explosions are fine, too, though. I love me some explodey movies.

Neat, Wings of Desire is also my favorite film.
Others:

Solaris (Tarkovsky)
Seven Samurai
2001

>> No.1842148

Tarkovsky just makes me want to pull my teeth. I need to get some kind of drug that keeps me conscious but locks down my body, so I can sit through those excruciating 4 hours.

The glacial pace is something I love...I don't really know why.

You ARE allowed to watch a movie in two sittings, you know.

Wow, all of your favorite movies are Japanese? That's even worse than having only American films in your list.

Glacial pace is all fine if the cinematography warrants it. I love Assassination of Jesse James . . . I didn't like Enter the Void

Oh great, another thread for listing Godard, Bergman and Tarkovsky films. Take this shit to >>>/tv/ where it belongs.

I just saw Dogtooth the other day, and was pretty impressed. But I'm surprised that it would be a "favorite" film.

In the mood for love is beautiful.
El secredo de sus ojos is quite good.

>> No.1842201

>>1842184
Firebreathing penis? Must've missed that part or you're talking about a different film. And what makes a 7.5 hour long film ineligible to make it to a genuine favorite film list?

Anyway, the photography of Dogtooth is stunning, and that's something I value a lot in films. Same reason why Soy Cuba is in there. Dogtooth also gets bonus points for being a recent film.

>> No.1842209

Man Bites Dog was cool, but not what I was expecting. It was way funnier.

The best bit is when she's crying at the end, and the pony nuts all over her face, and she just starts crying even more.

Other favs:
Planet of the Apes (original...and all the sequels are terrible)
Wicker Man (original)
Willard (2003. ending is awful though, thanks to conforming to the PG-13 rating requirements)
Glen or Glenda (Ed Wood. what a fucking trainwreck of a film, dear lord. funnier to me than Plan 9)
The Kid Brother (Harold Lloyd > Buster Keaton > Charlie Chaplin)
The Fisher King (Terry Gilliam)
Antichrist (Lars von Trier)
Rope (Alfred Hitchcock)
The Atomic Cafe (watch if you like documentaries, dark comedy, or Dr. Strangelove)
Tampopo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRJw7j7sm4Q))
