What a blast of a book. Like waking up after a datura trip and realizing you have no idea how you ended up in Eastern Europe.

>> No.18429851

I really liked it because of how completely it managed to show its characters. Don Quixote is the butt of every joke for 1000 pages but he's still one of the most lovable people I've ever met, makes valid philosophical points w/r/t the highly constructed nature of society even if he does so accidentally, and has you rooting for him every step of the way. Sancho likewise is a fool but somehow manages to come across as the perfect kind of best friend. Side characters get in on it too, random people who are only around for a couple of chapters (or even one) get full backstories and relatable personalities. Also one thing I never see talked about regarding this book is that the ending is the most amazing possible ending for a novel of its type and will hit you in feels you didn't know that you had.

an example he gives involves city building. its been a while but he talks about philosophy before him is basically a city without an architect, everything is sprawling and random and chaotic. he began his thinking from the first philosophy (I think therefore I am) and built the city from that, proving everything from there and trusting no one elses thoughts. having one central planner ends up with a better designed city than everyone fighting for what they want.
naturally he describes it much better than I do and you should read it yourself
