It's actually not a bad point. Kant addresses the same argument, albeit merely in terms of infinite cosmological timespans and how they are not valid (Schopenhauer criticised him for this). Kant ended up stating that the universe cannot be considered caused or infinite, but merely "indefinite." Don't ask him how that differs from "infinite" because Kant Kant tell you.

Evolution does not have a goal. Natural selection isn't aiming to make everything intoan intelligent being. Stuff just happens and the ones that are good enough don't go extinct. If you drop a box of silverware down some stairs, do you imagine the box has a secret plan for the spoons to get to the bottom first?

I think what's meant by evolution is matter going from low to high entropy. If the universe is infinitely old then everything should be at the highest possible entropy but obviously isn't. But the universe could also be infinite and the big bang happened because enough matter randomly bouncing around in high entropy came together once and the observable universe began.
