Third time reading the books, just got to Tom Bombadil's chapter. Should I skip it?

Also noone actually reads the songs, right?

On a different note, I really hate what they did to Sam in the movies. The actor is so punchable (cant put my finger on why), but his face and way of talking just annoys me to no end

Do not skip that chapter, it's worth. And it adds a place of purity. Tom Bombadil is likely a representation of Eru, or the Middleearth version of God

When I went back and reread the books as an adult, the Tom Bombadil chapters were some of my favorites. I love "In the House of Tom Bombadil," when it's raining and the hobbits are sitting in Tom's house, listening to him talk as the time goes by. There's something mystical and otherworldly about that chapter.

The Barrow Downs is one of the most bone chilling parts of the book. The way it immediately followed the fairytale of Tom's house makes it exceedingly clear that Middle-Earth is nothing like the Shire.
