Can someone explain Ezra Pound to me please? He seems to be mentioned in the foreward of every book I read.

Spoke classical Greek better than the Greeks.
Even though he didn't know it.

It's because filthy leftists like to feel edgy even if they attack every position they don't agree with.

Father of modern poetry. Fascist artist.

>> No.18329103

From Idaho. Spent his teen and young adult years in Philadelphia mostly. He moved to Europe with TS Eliot and linked up to with a guy named Wyndham Lewis. They had this goal of modernizing the English language and he ended up editing, influencing, or touching in someway a ridiculous amount of the art and cultural scene at that time and had a big impact on many writers of that time. He ended up a fascist and moved to Italy where he broadcasted propaganda for the fascists before he was captured by the allies, stuffed in a dog kennel with constant light, and tortured into madness. He’s most known for the Cantos. That’s about it.

I’ve never read Pound but I just want to say that his presence in Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast was always welcome. He seemed like a cool guy

smart and crazy. two best qualities of any artist in my opinion.
For those who don't know him, compare this to the pic

>Winter is icumen in,
>Lhude sing Goddamm,
>Raineth drop and staineth slop,
>And how the wind doth ramm!
>Sing: Goddamm.

>Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
>An ague hath my ham.
>Freezeth river, turneth liver,
>Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.

>Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, >Goddamm,
>So 'gainst the winter's balm.

>Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,

He’s in part responsible for (ironically) burying the decaying corpse of Western literature and that’s all you really need to know.

Father of all modernists, plus he has a finger in so many poetry movement pies.
Published portrait of an artist/ulysses in serial, helped develop and platform ts eliot, huge inspiration to hart crane and robert lowell (father of confessional poetry), helped develop yeats and frost, helped hemingway create iceberg theory, created the imagism movement which housed hd.
Finally, his influence encompasses all of those writers. Anybody they influenced (pynchon, faulkner, woolf, dfw, dylan thomas, the list is fucking endless) is also under his indirect influence.
His poetry was also pretty decent but his talent was mainly for spotting and supporting cutting edge modernist writers.
