Has anyone read The Man In the High Castle? I'm interested in reading it and would like a little input on how it is or how to read it.

Also, testing my new trip.

Yes, I've read it, and liked it a lot. I'd recommend it, particularly if you've read and liked, well, really anything else by PKD. If I had to summarize it, I'd say it's less "serious alternate history" and more "alternate history fantasy", where the good stuff is really in the meditations on cultural differences. I thought it had some of PKD's better prose, too.

I think if I say much more it'd be a bit of a spoiler...so yes, read it. It's worthwhile.

Alright, thanks.

Oh, and if you like that, here's another book about post-WWII alternate history that I really enjoyed. It's more of a straight-up parody, but it's really smart.

I read it a while ago, and I guess I was expecting the greatest PKD novel; I'd read a few PKD by that point. Although it was a good novel, I didn't love it. There wasn't the PKD humor and it was a bit disjointed. On the other hand it is a good book and it's interesting.

A few of us are currently reading/have read it recently.

I agree with this anon that it's not a funny book at all. I thought the disjointedness had a point, though (considering the ending)--sort of like Flow My Tears.

Ugh, just re-read what I wrote. It's satire, not parody.

i really hate faggots who try to make 4chan into "a community".

Sorrt OP for going off topic for the sake of that gaylord. I do recommend it. It is not one of my favourite PKD novels either, because the theme is actually more of a constraint than I am used to in his other work of wild imagination.

Not a single thing about the book is mentioned in 10 posts. Good job /lit/

I want to read it, because one of the amazon's reviews says that the novel is quite existential, is this true?
