Just read some fucking books. Despite what spastic stormniggers might say, you aren't much different from anyone else here.

Black literature (from the Harlem Renaissance and Civil Rights era, not contemporary woke garbage) is pretty good though

Read Machado de Assis. He was black but wasn't a professional victim. Then read Sterne (Machado for adults).

What kind of literature would you be interested in? There's general fiction, classics, sci-fi, fantasy, nonfiction stuff like history or philosophy. If you don't read often then maybe start off with some easy fiction that wont scare you away from reading. The staple books like 1984, Brave New World, Slaughterhouse 5. (Assuming the "black books" you read are just weird twitter activists so it might not be a good idea to dive into anything dense just yet)

Or research your favorite people and see what kind of books they have enjoyed. That's always neat.

White was never a thing, there were Irish , Scottish, British, etc.. they had their own ethnicity and language. Or whatever just read people that sorta look like u .

The way I see it, there are 4 “Canons” in the world. The Asian, the Indian, the Arabic, and the Western. The development of a literary canon in these geographical domains is inseparable from their development as complex civilizations. In the Americas, Africa, and Australia, no such canons have emerged in equal depth to the 4 earlier listed.

The extent to which these regions develop a unique literary identity I think is contingent upon how much they are overcoded by outside, more sophisticated, civilizations. For example, the possibility of a unique North American identity organically developing is lost because Native American culture has been thoroughly overcoded by western culture. American literature is an extension of European literature.

An undeveloped country is an open stage where drama can play out in the form of history. If it is the West guiding development in Africa, African culture will be westernized. This isn’t exactly the case though. The US and Australia were completely colonized, but in Africa this project was halted. The West now is a leech on Africa, taking her resources and investing nothing back in return.

We now have China funding development and the relationship appears more mutually beneficial, less heavy-handed. My guess is that Africa will industrialize fairly rapidly via China’s support over the next 200 or so years. This leaves some room for Africa to play out the drama of history less impeded than under the colonial system. With industrialization may come conflict, but then peace, and an inward turn towards art. The progression may be fast, but during it will be minds growing in intelligence, and then penning works expanding African culture to higher realms. And this cultural expansion is only possible when there is a rough confluence with civilizational advancement. Hopefully it’ll be something like the industrialization of Russia and the golden age of Russian lit.

But even so, the majority of Africa didn’t have a written language, their writing system was worked out by westerners using Latin characters. There’s a mark of western influence. An exception to this is Ethiopia, they did develop an alphabet. This allowed them to become the most sophisticated African nation. They attained their glory because Christianity reached them, and literacy is essential to Christianity. Most Ethiopian lit remains untranslated, pic related seems interesting, though the translation may be lacking.

What else is available to read now is African myth, which will be the basis of any African Canon that potentially develops. Then there’s the question of Black culture, which is a mix of African and European culture that occurred in America. Black literature can only exist in subordination to western literature because western lit gave blacks literacy, they did not arrive from Africa already possessing a writing system. It’s comparable in this way to Irish lit. Both are subgroups in the greater kingdom of western lit.
