If Socrates wanted to die so badly, why did he seethe so much when they finally condemned him?

He didn't. He BTFO'd the court numerous times. On the second vote casting, more people voted in favor of his death. His point of contention was that all of the Athenians that accused him were complete morons that care not for betterment of their soul, but merely of acquisition of wealth, of which Socrates could have easily surpassed all of them in if not for his daemon. After he was in prison and talking of why his soul will be drawn and stay in Hades, he's essentially lamenting at how utterly boring and stupid the Athenians are that sentenced him and that he'll be better off in the presence of heros and gods.
