Alternatively, from what I remember there isn't a part that explicitly stated he never got married or had children. There's even plenty of ancient legends and apocryphal texts that say he had a wife, kids, and/or brothers. The Buddha performed his teachings after already being married and having a child, then he became celibate.
Personally I think he didn't have a wife or kids because he is supposed to be the only begotten son of God so it wouldn't make any sense if God had another kid then now would it?

alright let me rephrase this: a big concept in Christianity is the idea of imitatio christi, the imitation of Christ. most Christians throughout history believed that we need to follow Jesus's example, to live like he lived. Jesus himself says that we should take up our own cross and follow him. why then did Jesus set the example of not starting a family? Gods in other religions, as well as all the prophets of the old testament, did the family routine. it just seems weird to me that Jesus alone would be except from human sexuality (even though he was fully man) and the masculine call to fatherhood.

Also from the orthodox perspective, the brothers and sisters of Christ in the bible are children of Joseph from another marriage. Thus Joseph was still old, already marriage and with a family, he just additionally became the protector of the incarnation of God.
