Are these the best editions I can get if I want to read Lattimore's translation of Homer?

The best edition is the one you can get for free on the internet.

Shame the current version is so bad looking. Pushed me to buy Fagles instead (not the only reason, I do prefer how he translates my favourite lines)

Yeah that is very bad. I wonder if that's just the dust jacket for the hard cover edition then that seems fine.

Nope, it’s a paperback. A semi-high quality pb published by a university press, but a paperback. The companion Odyssey isn’t even published by the same press, it’s by Harper Perennial and looks like a kindergartner painted the cover.

Oh alright that sucks. The older one is available in hardcover through abebooks

Oh well

Hardcover edition is great though.

That looks good too.

The only ones that look kind of good now are either paperback or a prose translation by Butler

I considered it while I was searching the archives for general ideas about translations.

is that the cover they use now? Ive ignored it because bookdepository is using a different cover for it.

>> No.18219113

does anyone know much about Lattimore's other translations? I just picked up a copy of his Aeschylus

I like his Pindar, much more than the Homer actually
