My dad unironically only reads feel-good novels marketed for ladies with mid-life crises. The plot is always that a woman in her thirties leaves her boring man, moves to France to bake croissants or start a winery or whatever, experiences hardship and comes out happier and more independent in the end.

He has tried reading more serious literature, but he can't handle reading stories with sad elements. He knows that the books he's reading are trash and hopelessly predictable, but it is the only thing he can handle.

Any books I can recommend to him that are basically only uplifting and positive, without also being trash at the same time?

Maybe your father wants to leave your mother moves to France to bake croissants or start a winery or whatever, experiences hardship and comes out happier and more independent in the end.

Yeah we joke around and say exactly that at the dinner table. He loves the idea of France so if you have any recommendations on books taking place there I would be happy to hear it.

He's been there several times so he knows what it smells like in real life. But like I said earlier, he is not in love with France but rather the idea of France.

No author worth a lick has written uplifting stories. On the topic of France, maybe The Sun Also Rises or The Tropic of Cancer, but they're not exactly uplifting
