There's been a split between the dominant idea of what philosophy is/should be since the 19th/20th centuries in the west, giving analytic and continental philosophy. Continental is dominant on the European continent, analytic in the British Isles and America.

The dominant forms philosophy in contenental europe (not including the british). I think it is a fairly vague term, so be careful to note which era/years are of interest. Personally I see it especially focusing on what is happening in Germany & France. As examples you have phenomenology, existentialism, structuralism, and marxism.

There are two styles of philosophy: Continental and British. British philosophy is extremely skeptical and empirical. It tends to progress in a step by step way, A to B to C to D with evidence for each. Continental philosophy is more rationalistic and credulous. It conceives grand theories by reasoning more abstractly. A to D to G.

The question is not what philosophies are there. What he wanted to elaborate is that Western tradition of philosophy split into two separate directions. But admittedly he did not express himself very clearly.
