The Valkyries is another good book by Coehlo. All his books have that same charming quality.

Basically one of those inspirational self help books disguised as a story.

I enjoyed it. Didn’t think it was revolutionary, but I enjoyed it.

It's a self help book for people who have faith and still believe in fate. Its incredibly preachy and was relying on religion being real as a fact for a lot of the self help advice to be useful. It also has very basic life advice like "a decision in just the beginning point that leads you on a new journey" or something like that, which isnt intrinsically bad advice its just something that by the age age of like 16 or younger you've probably heard before. The book doesn't help at all if you are in any way existentialist. Read Herman Hesse's Steppenwolf(or his other works) to get better idea at how to write self help fiction for people who genuinely think everything is meaningless. In summary Alchemist is real shit.
