Is Nietzsche right? Is someone being ugly an actually valid argument against them?

I have trouble believing Ibn Taymiyya would actually make an argument that retarded.

Does anyone know SPECIFICALLY where Nietzsche actually wrote this?

I do remember reading some comment about physical attractiveness in The Will to Power, trans. by Kaufmann, but I haven't read anything by Nietzsche in terms of ugliness. I have all his main works in my room right now so I'd love to actually look this up.

Yes and it's why you shouldn't read Nietzsche.

In origin, Socrates belonged to the lowest class: Socrates was plebs. We know, we can still see for ourselves, how ugly he was. But ugliness, in itself an objection, is among the Greeks almost a refutation. Was Socrates a Greek at all? Ugliness is often enough the expression of a development that has been crossed, thwarted by crossing. Or it appears as declining development. The anthropologists among the criminologists tell us that the typical criminal is ugly: monstrum in fronte, monstrum in animo. [“monster in face, monster in soul”] But the criminal is a decadent. Was Socrates a typical criminal? At least that would not be contradicted by the famous judgment of the physiognomist which sounded so offensive to the friends of Socrates. A foreigner who knew about faces once passed through Athens and told Socrates to his face that he was a monstrum -- that he harbored in himself all the bad vices and appetites. And Socrates merely answered: "You know me, sir!"

Attractive people have it easier and having it easier means you'll be more chill. Being genuinely ugly means you're getting the short end of the stick so you are more likely to be resentful.

It's not the ugliness that makes them like this. It's because, since they're ugly, their ancestors were only ever able to mate with the lowest members of society. Ugly people are literally less evolved than attractive people.

Nietzsche was physically ill most of his life which prevented him from maintaining normal, healthy relationships with others. It has no bearing on his analysis of Socrates.

Besides, Socrates revealed his intentions on his deathbed and Nietzsche hardly had to go out of his way to tell us that the Greek nobility viewed him as ugly and a criminal. We can see that for ourselves very easily.

You're also ignoring Nietzsche's point, since you've barely read him and you're on a crusade. It's Socrates' glorification of rationalism that has made European civilization weak.

Physiognomy is always valid. Ugly people betray an extremely ugly soul. They become embittered because of people who mistreat them because of how they look. That, and it's been proven time and time again that good genes come in clusters. Attractive people are smart, and generally extremely virtuous folks.

It's unfortunate, but that's the way things are. Ugly people are bad people.

He, like his father, was a Stonemason. He was part of the Antiochis tribe. So, I don't know if it's fair to call him a Pleb, because as a Greek he wouldn't actually be a Pleb or a Patrician. He was, however, a citizen of Athens, and while he worked a trade he also got to hang out with rich dudes who were rich, well educated, and well connected. One such was Plato. So, Socrates got to hang around with the thinkers of the Democracy of Athens, but also with the hereditary aristocracy of Athens.

Pretty good for someone who was butt-ugly, I'd say.

I think that, due to being ugly, ugly people have to be more clever and cunning in order to get by comfortably in society, so most dialectical thought, cruder memes, and other horseshit like that come from them. They're innocent though, because it's a matter of survival for them, and as part of their survival tactic they also sometimes have very unique, interesting, and lovable personalities.

Problem is, as it is with all of these arguments, is that the moment an ugly person creates something of beauty, they are now deemed less ugly and in fact, were never really `that' ugly to begin with. Of course, all of this is entirely in your imagination.

Nah, that's just society memeing to make that person feel better, similar to "yaaag gurl" moments.

But we also have to differenciate between phenotypic uggos and just fat or post partum disfigured people. Fat people usually have other downsides and depending on their size might have mental bagage - but that's not really what we mean when we speak about uggos (which would be for example an non symmetric face, crooked nose, since birth etc).

this is an example of nietzsche contradicting the conventional wisdom on a historical figure in order to make us reassess the metrics by which we judge them. it's a trick he pulls all the time and you are not exactly meant to take his argument at face value. this is a big reason people shouldnt start with nietzsche. he is high context and almost never straightforward.
