The Red Book
VALIS

Are two good primers and will probably lead you on to the teachings of Christ and an understanding of what that is. Theres nothing new under the sun, you could look outside a 1000 years ago and things would be the same in nature. The key is to place yourself in an eternal frame of mind, recognising past, present and future to be abstractions of consciousness. Personally I like reading classic lit to get a sense of people in different walks and different times of life and how they operated seeing the universality in human experience across the measurement of time in effect negating present concerns of a declining modern world.
