This is an excellent way to not only encourage us to branch out, but also suggest some of the best works of all time

1. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
2. The Divine Comedy as translated by Ciardi
3. Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann
4. Still Life With Woodpecker AND Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
5. Red by John Logan. (its a play, but its magnificent)

What're yours?

Fell free to ask each other about our lists

Is it better than the movie? I've heard it's written in a made-up language or something.

the movie is aeful in my opinion. I hated it
The makeup and costume design are excellent though
The book still gives better imagery

FUCK THE MOVIE, and FUCK KUBRICK

1. Flowers for Algernon
2. Animal Farm
3. The Iliad
4. Breakfast of Champions
5. On the Road

I want to give an honorary mention to The Animorphs series. I loved those books as a kid. They are literally what made me “a reader”. I downloaded a zip file that had pdfs for every book in the series last summer and reread it for the first time in 20-something years. I was shocked by how good this YA series was and how fucking heavy the stories were. I don’t know what surprised me more, the fact that I was reading such heavy shit as a little kid or the fact that all of it completely flew over my head.
