DQ was right. It was society that was wrong.

exactly, he was an example of pure virtues in a society that is going in a permanent degeneration process up to our days.

The first part is a plain satire of the chivalric ideas that Cervantes found so detrimental in his martial career. He surely witnesses hundreds of pointless deaths due to a nobleman that read one chivalric romance once and tried to imitate the admirable yet highly impractical ideas they posit. The second part is a deconstruction of the first's critique, showing that the reason why chivalry (as shown in romances) doesn't work is because people are far too cynical to act in the way fictional characters do. And in a way, Don Quijote is aware of that, like when he laments the invention of the cannon and powder because it makes heroes that slayed 300 enemies singlehandedly an impossibility.

>> No.17987152

of course he was right, the fact someone would have to conceive of a character like "don quixote" at all proves there's something inherently wrong with the world at that point.

Yeah he was an idealist, there's a part where he says he was sent by God to the iron age with the task of resurrecting the golden age. (I don't know how that is exactly written in english because thankfully i read it in spanish, kek. feels good to be born in a spanish speaking country. How do burgers cope with only knowing how to speak a broken version of english?)

4chan moment. don quixote is a very sympathetic character and the idea of being so fucking delusional that your world becomes a dreamlike romantic fantasy is alluring given the world we really live in, but you are not supposed to want to be him or else you are missing the point. it's like wanting to be taxi driver or american psycho. the point is to make fun of people who read too much chivalric novels. the people who beat him up were almost always totally justified to do so

Surely you'll tell us your country instead of just writing "spanish speaking".
