F Gardner. I finished reading Call of the Arcade a little while ago. His writing has an oddly religious feeling to it. Like I just got out of church. It also feels sort of sexual for a reason I can’t quite understand. There’s nothing sexual in the book but I still got that feeling when reading it. Why is this?

Kant's general writing style is pretty tedious and dry (although it's clear enough to understand, at least the translations I read). He has some good moments though, for example:

the way Tolkien conveys his world through is description and interaction with natives is gorgeous. Feels like watching My Neighbor Totoro (one of the most /lit/ films) or something. The biting philisophy that is incredibly relatable while being abstracted over myths and legends makes Lord of the Rings one of the genuine highest points of 20th century literature, and much more than "genre fiction"
