What are some good novels about apocalypses? Not really interesting in “last man” post-apocalypse novels like I Am Legend, but moreso stuff about the apocalypse itself. I’ve always found the idea interesting, a total collapse by forces outside any control, and I’m interested in some recs about it—thanks in advance

Call of the Arcade. I bought it for the memes but it surprisingly went in that direction.

You should check out The Road. It's a pretty bleak and desolate read.

Did you know that the Road is supposed to be a metaphor for life?

>> No.17939426

No I didn't, but I guess that it could be a really depressing view of life, sort of how Watership Down is all about the inherent danger of a wild animals life. Bro tell me more if you have it, thanks

Science fiction does it more than other things I suppose.

is quite famous. In the present day civilization is collapsing & scientist tries to send messages back in time to warn people and change course of history. So you have two stories (modern & 1960s). The modern story is not a bad depiction of what societal collapse would be like. It's unspectacular and depressing and pretty true to what's happening now to be honest. Life gets harder, rule of law breaks down, etc, but it's all very gradual. One guy (a rich politician IIRC) realizes which way things are going and stocks a remote farmhouse with about a billion cans of food and loads of guns and things and moves there with his parents just when things really go south.
