Do you take notes as you read casually, /lit/?

>> No.17910504

No but if I have pressing thoughts or revelations I write them in my diary desu

>> No.17910681

I steal nice snippets from books I read and reuse them in my own writing

I feel like it kinda breaks the flow, so I'll usually look back for a bit or find some summaries so I can think back and reflect after I've finished reading

>> No.17911021

I tried it, and it did help with retention a lot, but it ruined the flow of reading and I ended up enjoying works far less when taking notes. I ended up prioritizing enjoyment so I stopped.

The biggest way by far that notetaking helped with retention was reviewing what I'd written down after forgetting most of it. I can do something pretty similar looking at summaries or analysis by other people, so I just do that now.

I thought we've all read How to Read a Book by now surely.

>> No.17911100

I take notes while reading but trash them when I finish reading. Might be because of my strange aversion to any sentimentality. Everything I created, been gifted, etc. I throw away. I'm 26 now, there's not a single thing I own from before 22 (oldest thing being my desktop computer).

Does anyone annotate and highlight their books? What are your reasons?

I like to highlight key passages and annotate words/concepts I don’t understand or literary devices

>> No.17912026

>>17910444
No, I have a working brain.

This should be a mental process tbb. If you are paying enough attention to the book you're doing all of that already, and the person who made the image forgot to put the most important part of reading which is relating ideas with each other

>> No.17912114

No. What would be the point?
