Levin parts are the good ones. Honestly, Anna is dull and uninteresting. Tolstoy's prose is as good as it gets, though, as much as a cynical judgemental asshole he may be

Maybe I al getting filtered because it's too simple.

I think anna's psychosis sections are some of the best in the book.

It never really clicked for me either and when I ask what I'm missing, all I get are buzzword responses and no one actually says anything of substance.

>as much as a cynical judgemental asshole he may be
it's funny how he's the one putting his own characters in those situations, yet he's somewhat condescending and frustrated towards them, almost as if he's saying "fuck all these retards"
based imho tbqhwy

It's a soap opera. You either like that kind of thing or you don't.

>> No.17905089

>>17903976
It doesn’t really. Levin is the best and most interesting character, but even his sections drag on. Like when he starts to talk about how much he loves mowing. Reading 30 pages about how great it is to mow the fucking lawn is not my idea of a good time

I kind of liked that, but I didn't give a fuck about his book since, being a Russian novel, I knew absolutely nothing would come of it. I'd rather see more about his own personal work reforms, but he dropped that plot for some reason. Overall, it felt like two books smashed together very clumsily.

I also couldn't finish this book
It's so boring.

Here's what kept me reading:

Each character is distinct with fleshed and relatable in both endearing and detestable ways. I can see my own good and bad traits on display in different characters, all in varying degrees.
The characters are also believable. I don't mean in action but in their changing "states" and trains of thought. By state I mean their momentary moods and stances on their own and others affairs (pun intended).

uhmm err... yes, that's what I was going for haha
>>17905774
the events in the book aren't very interesting
what's interesting is how well fleshed out each and every character is, and how three dimensional they are
by the end of the book, you know more about them than people in your own life
Dostoyevsky is usually considered the psychological russian novelist, because of his deep and detailed character treatment, but Tolstoy also does it perfectly, in his own way
