"The Feminine Mystique" is worth reading, even if Betty Friedan's reasoning can be questionable at times and her conclusions reductionistic. Her observations, are for the most part, in line with what other social scientists have been noticing about Western people--namely, that we are lacking a sense of meaning in life. Unfortunately, Friedan failed to realize this was a problem of Western culture, not just a problem of women (though I'd be willing to accept it was exacerbated for women in the 1950's-60's.)
