What are some novels that are similar to Mad Men (In terms of setting, mood, themes, and style?)

came here to post Yates. Mad Men draws on a greater pool of references and is a richer text overall, but Yates really nails the midcentury atmosphere and balance between ennui and quiet despair. Eleven Kinds of Loneliness is excellent, and The Easter Parade is quite good.

Any of the many many books referenced in the show, for sure. Meditations in an Emergency was featured prominently. Rosemary’s Baby. Not the same setting, but the show isn’t shy about the debt it owes to Fitzgerald. Good show.
