I guess that's just a fucked up way of saying that "being dead" implies a contradiction if "you" is something that is necessarily alive, i.e. not dead. "You cease to be 'you' upon death."

That's not what people have anxieties about though: it's the idea of becoming something that is closer to death and eventually of becoming something that is dead that is frightening.

Unless you are saying there's Being that exists in this moment that is necessarily alive and is "you", therefore it's impossible to imagine this Being as dead. This Being is therefore immortal because it will always exist alive in this very moment.
Which is kind of what Wittgenstein said in:
"Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present. Our life has no end in the way in which our visual field has no limits."
