these idiots need a job so they can make money by mutilating old texts to fit with contemporary vernacular zeitgeist. This isn't bad in itself, since language changes all the time, but we agree that making English genderless isn't a good type of change so it should opposed. We should add more gender to everything.

I'll get flack for this but the obsession Christianity has for making it's adherents admit to their own "sinfulness" all the time is self-refuting. Didn't Jesus die for my sins? If I go to confession and have had my sins wiped away, why do I still refer to myself as "sinner"? It's also needlessly harmful to people. This is a long-time coming, I don't care if it's new age or not. Christianity will be better off for it.

Does it really matter?

The goal of modern translations is to make it as accessible as possible to a modern audience.

I'd argue it doesn't change the meaning of the text.

How will you get flack for that very safe opinion? If anything you’d get flack for saying that sin is real and it’s a good thing to have humility before the long suffering god who allows us to live far beyond what our sinfulness deserves.
The fact that mankind continues to prove exactly how erring and weak he is, even at his most civilized, should at least make you think maybe mankind isn’t beyond sinful nature.

I feel you on that OP. my own pet peeve is when the translator writes a 30 page intro about how the person they’re translating didn’t even exist. I have an edition of Tao where the translator does just that in trying to disprove the existence of Lao Tze. At some point it’s just like “yeah I get it you don’t even like the thing you’re translating enough to think the author was real, move on”

If that were true, it would not have been done. It was done specifically to change the meaning of the text.

I fucking hate feminist writers, they LOVE doing stuff on female saints, but they only have an interest in the fact that they were women, not what they were saying, so you get this kind of bullshit

I will also never understand w*men's attraction to systems of thought that don't require believing anything. It seems to be biological

How retarded does one have to be to type this out in succession, one line contradicts the other within 5s.
