I believe the english teacher meme is real. Only very few works of literature truly deserve the in depth analysis lit fags give it. Its just retarted speculation about what the author ‘might’ have meant when he said that Orsino sucked cock. I get why people like to give meaning to everything, it helps elevate the value of that thing but their ways are just retarted. Do people honestly believe that the red curtains were a hint to the main character’s Royal past ?

>bruh, you're just speculating why the curtains are blu, they just blu LMAO XD

Spoken like a 15 year old tumblerina. In every novel seriously analyzed in the western canon or out of it the intentions of the author are mostly clear and the real analysis is this of the techniques employed to transmit those allegories, metaphors and symbolisms. Literature is about more than little plots and characters, it's edutainment, historical, philosophical and political significance, and through it a mental retard like yourself learns about time periods and the differing philosophical struggles thereof.

Now get the fuck out of the literature board and return to the one-dimensional basic bitch takes that you don't have enough self-awareness to be ashamed of.

Some things are subconscious, or they borrow off other works that did have symbolism in mind.

This is your brain on high school. Reading books and interpreting them is never about the book or the author, and always about the reader. It is an exercise in meditation on behalf of the reader. Most of the things you will think about in life - beside "knowing how to do x" - are of the kind that requires interpretation. Why did a person said that to me? Why do I feel this way about something? Why do I find this beautiful, or ugly, or sad? Literature gives you the means to conceptualize and express your own perspective on life. People literally lack the words to say thing. Read an application for college, or the average email or facebook post: people are unable to express themselves. You live most of your life like the soul of a human trapped in a golem with impaired speech, babbling your way through extremely complex inner experiences which you will never be able to properly address. Retards are those who don't know how to talk, about themselves and about others. Literature can unironically fix that.

in reality the average English teacher isn't even close to being able to grasp the meaning of most works, which is why they get stuck on small scale analysis like this. Your post is just midwit cope and you will instantly know why if you read letters/diaries/conversations/notes by the author himself. Authors don't just spend decades or a lifetime on a work because they ran out of ideas and wanted to take it slow
