Average life expectancy and SOL boosts lead to overpopulation. Despite technological advances, the world is bloated by an increasingly resource-demanding population. This requires complex networks of trade and communication alongside huge supply-chains which themselves are more resource-demanding. Eye glasses and painkillers wont matter when overall complexity makes it harder to acquire and produce these goods. Eventually, it will be impossible to hash out resources which in a ~10 billion ppl world means giga-death collapse.

TL: DR Scientists are fucking retarded and we're all fucked.

That's not exactly correct though, although I think Ted didn't touch on this point. In ~1650 we've had the same amount of macroinnovations per year per billion of people as we have nowadays, which is sharp drop from iirc early 20th century where it reached its peak(iirc it went down from 16 to 4). As such it's a correct observation to say that we have much more "worker ants" and much less geniuses. While this is not that disastrous yet, if the decline progresses you can expect that eventually the economy won't be able to maintain the cycle of creative destruction, which will possibly lead to a breakdown. Now I must admit I don't know nearly enough about economy, but I've heard someone talking about "the great stagnation" going on.

The gap between necessary resources and luxury resources might widen, but Food will be more and more readily available. Even if it is created in a lab, it doesn't matter. In this aspect, our sustenance will be continually replinished and the ecological dome of mankind will be sustained... up until a point, which is becoming exponential and less linear. It's glib to reduce an entire man's thought to a convivial epithet about chroline and life expectancy. Life is different now than the middles ages, bbbbut we have sewage doesn't mean life isn't not worthless. If the thesis is the industrial revolution has developed our basic needs and more to the point where it's a non-issue and we are collectively beholden to a sense of spiritual nihilism downplayed by contemporary politicans, psychiatrists, executives, and so forth, and his objection is the same, well then yes my point stands. Ted also adressed this basic points in the manifesto and his other works. This guy is just talking out of his ass.

I feel like most people who praise Ted haven't read him. I've read both ISAIF and Anti-Tech Revolution and I still disagree with him. I think at this point his collapse prophecy >>17695678 is his main argument because simply saying life before the industrial revolution was better isn't enough to convince anyone. He does try to claim it was better in ISAIF despite not romanticizing pre-industrial life at all and admitting it was also hard. I'm sure I've just forgotten by now but I don't think he explains sufficiently why modern substitutes are worse than the "natural" ways of fulfilling the power process, if he is even right that fulfillment does come from the power process. I view the collapse theory as in the same vein of the Christian and Marxist apocalyptic theories he criticizes himself in the same book he peddles his own prophecy. In the end, I think most people who like him were rightist who read the quotes from his criticism of leftism in ISAIF and immediately assumed he must be right about everything because they think in black and white, and I say this as a rightist myself.

INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE
Introduction

1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world

>Neither is he explicit about why the things that he takes to be valuable are threatened by, yet cannot be enhanced by, technology
He is very explicit about this. It is, in fact, the whole purpose of his essay and book. How someone could misunderstand him this badly is beyond me.
>>Kaczynski reaches his conclusions by appeal to ethical principles that rig the game strongly inthe disfavor of technology
Yeah, no shit, ethical principles are relative. Ted even admits this when he talks about the power process and how it differs for different people. So really, they're not legitimate objections, they're objections which Ted explicitly recognized in the course of his writing. In the end, every normative is subjective isn't it?

>> No.17699424

>>17699375
I think the point is, if Ted wants to help mount widespread agitation against technology, there should be some attempt to explain why we ourselves might find the ethical norms he bases his critique of industrial society on desirable or convincing to hold.

There's nothing intrinsically hostile about pointing out weaknesses in a philosophical text (otherwise how could the position be improved upon?). Like a classicist who adds a footnote to his translation of the Gorgias explaining why Socrates' argument in such and such paragraph is fallacious (and how it can be bolstered by changing x and y axioms or whatever) doesn't mean the guy thinks Socrates is a RETARD debunked CHUD. The guy might even be a Platonist. Same for a Marxist critiquing Capital, or a Catholic critiquing Aquinas. etc. etc. Obviously these are examples of people sharing an ideological affinity, but I also think challenges from people with opposing belief systems don't have to be viewed with such terrible suspicion and resentment.

The best you could hope for is being in a colony on some irrelevant backwater planet, but guess what? Colonies require humans and the very thing you are attempting to escape has followed you there and wherever you may dream of fleeing to. Retard human monkeys are the very god damned problem. This is my first post in this thread schizo-kun
Also if his episode had happened in the last five years he would 1000% have gone through with it. I hate to stoke a conversation about trannies, because they're always garbage that derail threads, but I just needed to address the irony

What's even an ideal life most people should have? Living an uneventful life farming in a village forever? Being given blowjobs 24/7?

Like, fuck, how do anti-modern memers even wish to live, concretely speaking?

The only viable form of life is exemplified by the bronze age mindset: exploring and conquering newfound domains. Anything other than this is soulless buglife.
Lives become miserable once exploration is made impossible - once every domain is owned, once the endeavours of great men are obstructed by deterritorializing forces.

"During nearly 22 hours of interviews with a psychiatrist appointed by the judge, Kaczynski talked about his childhood, growing up moderately poor and feeling out of place with other children in his suburban Chicago neighborhood. Brilliant in school, he skipped to 7th grade from the 5th, which he claimed stunted development of his social skills."

""By the time I left high school," Kaczynski told Dr. Sally Johnson, "I was definitely regarded as a freak by a large segment of the student body." His childhood frustration took the form of misbehavior in the classroom, he said, including building a pipe bomb one day in chemistry class which earned him notoriety from fellow students."

"Johnson said Kaczynski attributed his lifelong inability to establish deep friendships, particularly with women, to "extreme psychological verbal abuse by his parents" while he was growing up."

"The evaluation also states that Kaczynski was extremely angry with his family. Moreover, it concludes that much of Kaczynski's anti-technology views were developed while he was a young man and then essentially continued unchanged."
