As an ESL, should I learn Dutch before learning German? What are the advantages of taking small steps towards German via Dutch?

Cute girl, what's her only fans?

This is the most bizarre question I've heard.

Apparently it's relatively easy when you know both German and english.
t. German-speaker whose friend studies in the Netherlands and learned the language in like 2 years

I wouldn't suggest you learn Dutch to then learn german tho

The languages don't have as much mutual intelligibility as you may think. Just learn German, learning Dutch isn't really gonna help you with anything besides it being a language based off of the same vocal patterns.

Just learn the language you actually want to learn.
Once you've learned Dutch or German, learning the other language should be pretty easy

Dutch and German are so similar, that it doesn't really matter, but as someone that learned both, I'd go with Dutch, first. German is just a little bit more finicky

There's literally no reason to learn Dutch so that you can learn German. If you want to learn German then learn German.

English (as) Second Language,

>> No.17696624

this anon >>17695875 gets it. it all depends on your first language, the aims you envision to have with each language et cetera. if you just want to read books, choose german. the only reason why you'd want to learn dutch is if you want to live here.
