I know that one day I will put my past behind me, light it on fire, and then leave. I will run to Orthodox Christianity, and into the light of truth.

The light of truth cannot be imprisoned in any one Tradition, it is freely expressed within the truthful part of every Tradition.

What are considering crucial Orthodox reading material? I've always seen Orthodoxy as the most perfect interpretation of Christianity, but never really looked into it.

Coming from an orthodox country, whilst you might like our theology and tradition you might want to consider the state of clergy/church itself. From the 400 years of degenaration and nepotism that was enforced on the Patriarchate of Constantinople (post-Ottoman rule the Patriarch wasn't anymore the more learned or involved archbishop ecclected, but the priest who payed the Sultan more) to the fact we haven't had an ecumenical synod since the fall of Byzantium, all in all it ain't that good. The corruption and lack of guidance for national orthodox churches that is left over from the Ottoman rule still can be felt within the greater church, with one of the more recent examples being the "schism" between the church of Russia and the church of Ukraine, which then lead the church of Russia to condemn the church of Greece and Patriarchate as well. Just some things to have in mind when trotting into Orthodoxy as an outsider, seeing that most times people are completely ignorant to the inner machinations and state of our church and tend to overly-romanticise it.

Thanks for the info. The human element always finds a way to ruin something beautiful - especially with religion.

You're not wrong, but I feel better thinking about it as religion lifting us up from the worst of our condition - the state of nature, and all that.
