Have any of you have self published?
Could you post your book?
I’m honestly interested in some works made by the lurkers of /lit/ and how the process went.
>pic unrelated lol

I learned that publishing is a business like any other, just P's and Q's. Most books (and thus, publishing houses) don't turn a profit at all.

Worst case scenario I sell none and my friends and family can remember me by my art. Most people and species are dead anyway.

Did you write a novel about lil pump?

>> No.17684117

>>17684098
lil pump was the muse to begin with

i found him the perfect crystallization of what went wrong with the west, and thought it would be interesting if a character actually dropped out of harvard to become lil pump

none of that happens in the book exactly, however that was the starting premise

I want to self publish and don’t give a shit about making a profit, but I feel like self publishing gives you zero exposure compared to going through a publisher. I supposed I could buy ads on 4chan

It would probably require negotiating with Fag Gardner. He probably has a monopoly on meme books at this point.

I've got two and a half books out there at the moment. Had a book deal before COVID hit, so I had to change things up and release them myself. Takes a lot more work than you'd expect to generate regular sales.

With or without a publishing house?

>> No.17684922

>>17684846
Without. The publisher I was with had to drop a lot of their projects last February, so I was forced to come up with an alternative. (We had no idea how long COVID would stick around.) I wanted to be a writer, but I ended up having to become a businessman as well. But now I own my own brand, so there's that.

>> No.17684964

Oh, for sure. It's not as glamorous as everyone makes it out to be. Most of the time, profitability in this industry seems to simply come down to time put in once you have your product. Look at the faggot Gardner for example. He's grinding as hard as possible.

As in marketing? I'm thinking about buying some Facebook ads but if you have any tips that'd be appreciated

>> No.17685014

>>17684982
I've experimented with FB and Insta ads before, but unless you have some sort of promo going on or you have a way for people to buy direct from your website, they're not great for much beyond exposure or gaining followers. You can see how many people visit your profile, click through to your website, etc., but unless you're using Shopify or something, you can't actually tell how many sales have been generated from your ads. Amazon ads are, in my opinion, way more effective, as you get to see all of your sales, right down to, in some cases, where in the US the people bought your books.
