Philosophy is hard to understand to many normies, yet when children are involved and use ideas that they misinterpreted or completely misunderstood, it begins a cycle of kids thinking they are intellectual, when in reality they are not.

Should we stop kids from reading such books?

Yes you should be banned from reading philosophy until you are over 50 years old and have passed a test
also no academics allowed

Philosophy already has filters to trap the nitwits. I don't know what Pewds recommended but it's probably one of them, like Meditations by Aurelius.

Gatekeeping literature is much more than wanting people not to read the books you like. The key aspect is to relentlessly harass and bully those that misinterpret the books you like, and to make fun of them for being shallow and pretentious. 1 million people could read whatever book this is, and that would be totally fine with me, as long as they get made fun of online when they misunderstand it.

The good philosophy is already self-gatekeeping, see Heidegger for example (why do you think he said philosophy should be purposely unintelligible?).

>> No.17684131

>>17683573
How can we gatekeep literature? We can be hostile to people who ask stupid questions here or act like retards but that's gatekeeping /lit/ (which I support mind you), it's not effectively gatekeeping literature. We can't stop people from buying/downloading books and reading them. You know who can gatekeep literature? Trannymedia. Trannymedia, if left unchecked, will systematically construct a cultural-systemic wall preventing anyone developing within their system from appreciating (decent) literature. As the decades progress they will:
1) attack the value of all classic works
2) rabidly promote new works that are brain-mush
3) reinforce the new works by means of socio-cultural pressure and institutional process
So one way or another a gate is forming that will deflect most normies from literary enlightenment. Do they deserve literature? I'm not sure they do. Texts will be preserved/rediscovered for the next renaissance so don't worry.

>> No.17684200

>>17684131
This. If you don't gatekeep the plebs out of academia, they will eventually climb their way to the top and systematically remove the classics for being too elitist and racist and such, and replace them with modernist slop.

I know i shouldn't be angry, i know i shouldnt hold hate so dearly... But for fuck sakes you guys on here see the problem right? Its not being angry about the fact that youre space has been taken over by an influx of new people, its the fact they havent arrived at this point on their own personal journey. Its group think mentality, they see the leader do something and they follow suit.

This board simultaneously complains that kids aren't reading are addicted to vidya and porn, yet will also complain when they actually read and will claim we should "gatekeep" literature, because their interest in reading didn't come from social ostracization and a need to define themselves in opposite to the society that excluded them; it came from imitation of someone they look up to (which is the way it works for most normal humans), in this case a YouTuber, therefore it isn't "genuine". You are nothing but clowns without a hint of self-awareness, the greatest irony of this site is that the "NPC" meme came from it.

>> No.17685862

>>17683573
No, I don't think so. People will read what interests them. What we should do is get rid of all of the commentary and supplementary reading/sparknotes. The reader should do the heavy lifting, and people that use these things to understand a book tend to develop an inflated sense of importance because they shouldn't have been able to read it. Either that or stop attaching notions of superiority to reading altogether. A world where nobody cares that you read Schopenhauer is a beautiful intersection of time and space.

People like you are the worst. That guy perfectly explained what it's like to enjoy something because it caught their attention on an individual/personal level for what it is in itself, and face indifference or sometimes even ridicule for it, but then witness a complete 180 on that attitude and ostracism just because of a mainstream media push to glamourise and market something.

You want to put him down while elevating the plebs, because you're the ultra smart man of the people. But you a fucking shill for normalfags who get pulled from pillar to post.

You need first to demonstrate that kids larping as intellectuals is a bad thing. I see it like martial arts, many people enters a dojo thinking they'll be like Bruce Lee in no time, only to leave one year later because it takes discipline. This process guarantees that fresh blood keeps discovering martial arts. My first book was Zarathoustra and, may Guénon (pbuh) forgive me, I misunderstood it completely (*). Now I'm more aware of being an ignorant pleb, but I don't think stopping me would have improved m'y life / protected philosophy.

> * I must confess that I remember a passage where N. Seems to agree with you, complaining that everyone fancying himself a writer will taint litterature itself
Well I left the dojo with a fit body as shredded as R.C.Waldun so fight me at my own risks.
