What are some books that will give me insight into leadership? I've recently been promoted to a leadership position at work, and it's a fairly new experience for me.

For god's sake, no edgy rubbish like "The 48 Laws of Power." I'm not trying to become Littlefinger.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll check it out. Can you tell me a little about why you're recommending this book?

1. It's the better Machiavelli and 2. it deals with how the romans built and kept their system of governance, it talks about leadership in non-absolute power systems, i.e. systems where consent is required

Well maybe if you have gotten some form of leadership role you could try to find people who have also been in similar positions and that you think of as intelligent and ask them for tips. Probably learn more than some fucking book written 500 years ago.

don't read literature or classics about leadership, read modern books based on recent scientific papers

I would recommend How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Your team and colleagues will appreciate you for knowing how to give orders without sounding like an ass.

Jocko’s podcast is actually a decent leadership podcast. It’s so refreshing to hear someone who isn’t caught in the alpha male/ incel dichotomy of barking orders, but it’s all based around respect.

He’s a cool dude.
