Books are dead and writing prose is dying with the medium. What matters moving forwards is developing the skill of writing compelling dialogue. The excess fluff of description and detail will be separated from the written medium and assigned to far superior visual mediums. Dialogue is a whole different beast when it becomes the sole remaining touch of a writer's hand.

It's not.
Nowadays, writers that make it simply write compelling stories. I can only read without boredom if I can feel the hook. Even stories with barely passable dialogue can be entertaining and I only read for entertainment.

So? Does prose really affect your enjoyment of the book that much? Stormlight Archive has laughably bad prose, but I still find it enjoyable.

Because that is the type of popular schlock that could could and should be considered bad. Be considered bad. They are fad authors though, truly popular, that is to say truly popular, and truly popular authors and works, that is to say a work popular over much time, generally will have excellent prose. Read Henry James Read Henry James Read Henry Henry
