>What are some stories, novels, books which include a curse?
First book that came to my mind was the King in Yellow, particularly the first few stories. MR James's or Arthur Machen's stories also feature curses, and they appear quite often in weird/horror shorts. Maybe in a broader sense, like a haunted or mystical object that drives the protagonist crazy and not in the sense of someone putting a curse though.
>Any accursed heroes?
This is a theme in various mythologies to different extents but I haven't read too many stories with it. The Forsaken in the Wheel of Time series are such characters, also it appears in the Silmarillion etc.
>Or betrayals?
Now this sounds pretty interesting, do you have any books in mind?

This will sound really cheesy but years and years ago reading the Dragonlance chronicles and Raistlin doing some type of betrayal.

DL series is basically a D&D campaign in book form but it's still better than solo-tabletop-RPGing.

After playing rpg's like Icewind Dale etc from back in the day and more recent/modern isometric rpg's (and some inspired by dnd) I recently tried getting into it during the quarantine, seen books of this series in the game shop so I could check this out. Known about the series for ages but I didn't check it out

go with "The Chronicles"

- Dragons of Autumn Twilight
- Dragons of Winter Night
- Dragons of Spring Dawning

Just for nostalgia's sake, I bought the first book after 10+ years again.

And with the same level of cheesiness, since you played IWD2 you can always get some Drizzt (The Dark Elf Trilogy) since they take place in the same universe.

- Homeland
- Exile
- Sojourn

Nice, thanks for the heads up anon. Also, my cousin used to play dnd back in the day and has one of the forgotten realms books with Drizzt, but he didn't recommend and I didn't much care about it back then. I could borrow that one though, I mean they're short reads so I might as well get acclimated
