I've noticed a trend among female readers: as far as literary authors go, there seems to be a lot of female fans of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Haruki Murakami, and Herman Hesse.

Pretty obvious why girls are into Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters' books, but why are so many girls obsessed with the works of Murakami and Hesse?

They are essentially writers for very young people. Romantic in the large sense.

I'm a man but I love Jane Austen. The way she analyses people's characters is really insightful. It's just a shame this thread will inevitably turn into a misogynistic circle-jerk.

Did I make Butterfly furiously masturbate and slam her tightened pussy up on a dildo earlier?

I mentioned she was hot and she signed off immediately, very cute :3

Jane Austen writes with a lot of charm. Everyone knew a girl like Emma in Highschool but I think the appeal goes beyond just a shallow relatability.
Her diction is top notch and she has a great sense of humor.

Marcus Aurelius, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Schopenhauer, Mishima, Infinite Jest (especially if we're talking about FUCKING WHITE MALES core lit), Kafka

Calling something "girl core" or "man core" is too broad. We need to go even further: "literary girl core", "midwit girl core", "literary man core", "toxic man core", "midwit man core."

Schopenhauer is "toxic man core" but not "midwit man core." A "midwit man" book would be like anything by Hemingway.

You forgot George Eliot and Eliza Gaskell.

Anyway, I dispute that Wuthering Heights is girl-core. It's just straight up one of the greatest novels of the nineteenth century. Heathcliff doesn't read like the creation of a woman.

Austen espouses universal truths about constancy, at least in Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and Sensibility. The betrayer, the person who submits to their vices are always excoriated. The only person who does it better is Eliot.
