The kind of person can distinguish between anime and manga is basically too much of a weeb for me to respect.

It's all just Japanese cartoons.

Again, theres so many options, the whole dream of gerontius by Elgar is up there, let the music play by Barry white is, calling for vanished faces by current 93, Martin gaye’s whats going on and God is my friend, Gilbert O’Sullivan’s alone again and also Clair, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel, Vers la flamme by scriabin but the more I think the more comes up. Can’t do it.
>favorite anime
Tie between mushishi, dragon ball, revolutionary girl Utena, legend of the galactic heroes, berserk, evangelion, lain, YuYu and Monogatari.
>favorite manga
Comedy manga would be Thermae Romae, more serious manga would be berserk.

But honestly the more I sit with any of these the more and more answers comes up.

Ping Pong the Animation really is great, one of that last anime of it's era. The mid to late 2010's were not the greatest.
>>17579215
I've heard about Trout Fishing in America, is it really that good?

>> No.17579398

>>17579379
I mean, taxi driver is about a guy who doesn’t really understand the emotions of others, has high ideals of masculinity and there’s a constant contrast of the filth of the modern world against the purity he wants to see. On a intellectual and emotional level, I get it. Maybe not for the reasons folks usually like it, but it’s much the major theme of the film.

>> No.17579444

>>17579379
yeah haven't watched much in past 2-3 years but anime really wasn't that good from 2012-2020 from what I've seen

I like Historie as well, too bad the release is so fucking slow

>> No.17579485

That's definitely fair, just thought you hit us with a Kenneth Anger film or something experimental. Taxi Driver is good though, I respect it.
>>17579444
Yeah between Berserk and Historie I can't tell which author will croak first. Feelsbadman. There was actually a manga about Pliny the younger that I read a bit ago, it's called Plinivs. Pretty good manga if you're looking for something similar to Historie.

Agreed, although I find Vinland Saga has gone downhill quite hard after the farm arc.
I recommend Shigurui if you haven't read it.
A bit too much gore and nudity perhaps but imo the best historical (and non-glorified) look at the brutal nature of sword-schools and feudal Japan.

>> No.17579626

>>17579569
>Shigurui
This looks like Baki's art style. I'll pass.

>> No.17579642

>>17579485
Oh don’t get me wrong, those are good also, but I find a lot of art films fail as proper art, they try so hard that they fail at the goal of causing internal contemplation in the viewer. House that jack built (and 2001 space odyssey for me also) would be good examples of movies that produce contemplation and are Aesthetically pleasing and aim pretty high. At the same time, something like taxi driver is such a good contemplation and so well done that I really can’t think of someone who will watch it and not get any interior movement from it. You should definitely check out house that jack built if you haven’t.

>> No.17579647

>>17579569
I think the bit where Askeladd died, and the arc after his death up through the farm arc was definitely peak Vinland Saga but I think it was still good up until the most recent arc. I really like Sigurd and all that but it really did combust and roll off a cliff pace wise. I'll definitely check Shigurui out, looks cool. Read Kingdom if you're looking for a manga about Chinese history btw. Not like the other manga I've mentioned in regards to tone, as it takes the dynasty warriors approach to Chinese history, but it's still good. Really long though.
